Conditions to evaluate

A provider should evaluate the slab’s integrity, crack pattern, fragmentation, thickness if known, support, movement, transitions, and intended use. Widespread deterioration or a different planned use can favor replacement.

Outcomes to compare

Write the target outcome beside each proposal: support, elevation, transition, drainage path, appearance, surface finish, or preparation for another project. Then identify what remains unresolved.

  • Removal, disposal, forming, reinforcement, and curing for replacement
  • Access holes, lift control, void treatment, and patches for leveling
  • Separate crack, joint, coating, drainage, or landscape work
  • Unknowns and change-order conditions

When to seek another discipline

Foundation movement, building distress, utilities, retaining conditions, or other structural questions may require an engineer or another qualified professional. A concrete repair proposal should not be treated as a structural diagnosis unless that service is explicitly provided by someone qualified.

Is replacement always more permanent?

A universal durability claim would ignore base preparation, drainage, design, materials, workmanship, and continued site conditions. Compare the actual plans and warranties.

Can appearance stay exactly the same after leveling?

Not necessarily. Existing cracks, stains, patches, joints, and lift holes may remain visible. Ask for realistic appearance expectations in writing.
